sophie et olivier

sophie and olivier were the first couch surfers I hosted this past may. the two were both architect students studying abroad in quebec, where they met and fell in love. they were traveling the united states before their internships, and had san francisco as their last pit stop to their destinations. sophie was to intern in a small village in peru, and olivier was headed to argentina for his internship.

they taught me how to make crepes and quiches. i showed them how to make seafood curry, and chiliquilles. we shared stories of our travels and encounters of people around the world.

they were a lovely couple, cultured, and well traveled at the young age of 21. olivier talked about his life back in france, and his funny and enticing stories about his encounters with couch surfing. sophie enlightened me with her upbringings in the reunion islands. i never knew such a place existed until i met sophie. apparently the french colonized the islands centuries ago, and used it as a detention place for prisoners. eventually the island progressed and was immigrated with an array of ethnicities. predominantly french, chinese, indian, and african. the roots of creole culture and the language can be attributed from the reunions island.
---
i wish the two of them the best of luck on their journeys around the globe, their studies and future careers as architects, and in their blossoming romance.

tu vas me manquer, sophie et olivier. ma maison est tes maison tout les jour!
